I've heard talk (read tweets) that everyone seems to get Lady Gaga as their top following suggestion.

Thanks for the summary. I got in at 6.45pm (was event finished by then? I guess so by the times on your posts.) and tried to load it on my iPod, but got immediately scowled at for coming in and jumping straight on my iPod (suppose I should have said hello to the kids) so put it back down again. Just trying to check things out now.

It'll be 6pm. It's always 6pm. So I'll miss it. Or most of it. As always.

Perhaps me not accessing the event will be like the straw that didn't quite make it onto the camel's back?

Well... I didn't do it all the time. And the noise of the wind whistling past my ears is louder than the music anyway.

So how goes the bicycle revival?

When I recently moved house, I took on a rather longer cycle commute than I was used to, but I was safe in the knowledge that my company operates a cycle2work scheme (through which I got a bike last year) and I could put in an application this year and get something a bit more sturdy and robust (and with friggin' gears).

However, then the HMRC goes and scuppers things by amending (technically, just "clarifying") the scheme, which has meant my employer has postponed the scheme whilst they review the announcement. Which has meant me spending a bit of dosh fixing up my current bike:

- First of all my back wheel falls down a rut and I get a broken spoke
- Not having anything to hand to repair it with and relying on my bike for getting to and from work I carry on until some new spokes I ordered turn up
- By then I have three or four broken spokes and my wheel is really out of true
- Replace spokes and get back to cycling.
- Also fit a rear mudguard. I used to be able to cope with a soggy bottom when I was only doing 3.5 miles, but there's nothing more miserable over longer distances.
- Unfortunately running it out of true for so many miles has destroyed the bearings in my rear hub
- So much so that the outer race / bearing cup has popped out and merrily machined its way into the soft aluminium frame (it was making a hell of a noise, but had to get home). Luckily frame seems just about ok.
- So new rear wheel required. Has added bonus of being better spec than the original and also coming with a 16 tooth gear. You wouldn't think one tooth would make that much difference, but moving from a 42/15 ration to 41/16 has been lovely (especially when it comes to head winds).
- Fit some drop handlebars to replace the original risers (need more hand positions over the longer distance and also since I have no gears, I can at least tuck down into the wind).

Next up is some studded tyres for the snow and ice that I'm sure will be here soon. Striclty speaking my rims, (especially the rear on the new wheel) aren't wide enough for the tyres, but I'm going to give it a go. At least the frame has plenty of clearance being a hybrid-style bike rather than a racer.

Don't think I actually said congrats so: Congratulations! I would love an iPhone, but ain't going to happen. In fact, after a good year, it finally looks like I've lost part of the use of my iPod Touch: It's become the family alarm clock. And since my missus gets up later than me, it now stays at home in the weekdays. I guess this isn't too bad as I'm sat in front of a computer at work anyway, and I probably shouldn't listen to music whilst cycling.

Well, just enough so I felt I was getting a deal. So if you've seen ones go for £170 to £220, but would accept £100 to £150 then yeah, I'd feel like I was getting a good deal.

Wouldn't put me off, but I would be looking to pay a fair bit less than one without engraving.

As Gamoe said. That's really the only word that can be used to describe those photos.

Could just be a coincidence (because I've had my iPod Touch a year and so battery must have reached the start of the downhill point), but yes it does seem to be acting more strangely under iOS4.

Quote by Gamoe on 2010-08-06, 00:54:
Unfortunately, the most important parts of the bike- the chain, breaks, shifter, etc. I don't know much about, unlike other appletalkers, and I'm scared to hell to touch for fear of breaking.

For the past year I've been riding a fixed gear bike, because I too am not much good with maintenance of gears and shifters, etc. So I'll concede to Euphras on this one.
