funny that no-one's mentioned this [or, if they did, i missed it], but in my usual 'timeline graphic' earning fashion, i just found out that last week google chrome browser for OSX finally went public beta.

i willnae be able to use it until such time as they add 1password support, but i fired it up for a quick look at everyone's favourite website:

very superficial first impressions are:

  • there's nothing to really dislike about the look of it.  pretty clean and minimalist

  • combined URL/search bar is interesting [but why the partial use of grey text in URLs?]

  • i like the clock-style progress indicator in the downloads window

So you can see at-a-glance what site you are on. I like this. I'd use Chrome in a heartbeat if I had an Intel mac. It really is great on Windows.

I just don't see the advantages here, and I'm not sure I'd like Google keeping any more of my browsing history than it does already.
