Subject: Homebrew
Not that kind, although

<interlude>
I do remember a time when I played Hockey (the non-ice kind) at Uni and two of the guys there brewed their own beer and bought it along to a game in a watering can. I didn't dare go near it
</interlude>

anyway, Homebrew looks really interesting, but I haven't had a chance to try it out. It looks like an alternative to Macports. Check out the README.

damn! - i thought you were talking about that kind!

i make the odd bit of scrumpy cider myself.  it's fun to add different things into the recipe and see what happens.  in sept i made a 'winter warmer christmas scrumpy' which had cinnemon, cloves, and chilli in it.

funnily enough, when it was ready no-one else wanted to drink it, but me :grin:

I've got a friend doing brewing some beer of his own. Says he'll bring it by my way to try.

Anyway, what's this social coding thing about?

i must say that, even after visitng the link i5m posted, i'm still none the wiser as to what exactly homebrew is, or why i should have it.  :confused:

that's always the sign of true geekware - 'if you need to ask what it is, you dinnae want it'.

Macports / Fink alternative. I.e. Package Management, say you want to install the latest Ruby, but you don't want to build from source, you can just do

brew install ruby

for something like that [ie. ruby etc.] on OSX i just wait til a GUI installer, or standalone environment is released.  i have enough 'fun' doing terminal stuff on my server to last me a lifetime.

My friend's homebrew beer was horrible. He says he'll try another recipe next time.
